Area Restaurants
For a quick and delicious Italian food fix, try Gorham's House of Pizza. They offer more than just pizzas, with generous portions too, of lasagna or chicken souvlaki. You can also have a variety of portable salads or oven-hot grinders. 839-2504 If you're looking for a nice pub that makes great micro brews with casual pub fare, try Sebago Brewing Company. Take Route 25 south towards Westbrook, turn right on Elm Street in downtown Gorham and they are straight ahead. 839-2337 sebagobrewing.com
In Westbrook, don't miss a classic restaurant- Casa Novella. It has been described by the Portland Press Herald as a favorite place to gorge on Italian-American fare. Featuring the best red sauce in Maine- served over fabulous meat balls and spaghetti to veal cutlet Parmesan, all drenched deliciously in marinara. This Westbrook institution is wonderful. 854-9909
Maine's largest city Portland, just ten minutes away, has been described as a gourmet paradise, with restaurants featuring new American cuisine to a variety of ethic restaurants that will leave your taste buds crying for more.
The Front Room Picture a small, cozy restaurant where you can watch the chefs at work. Most likely you'll end up chatting with your neighbors as this place was truly designed to feel like your neighborhood restaurant. The prices are also great. There is something on the menu for everyone, but get there early, unless you don't mind having a drink while you wait. 773-3366 To see for yourself, check out this review- starchefs.com Vignola For a unique dining experience, you should give this one a try. It serves mostly appetizers, or light fare, making it the perfect spot to enjoy a light dinner with some great wine. The atmosphere is also fabulous as you walk off a cobblestone street into a beautifully restored old warehouse. 772-1330 vignolamaine.com
Fore Street The menu is based on the very best raw materials from a community of Maine farmers, fishermen, foragers, and cheese makers, who are also friends and neighbors. Most of these Maine foods are organically grown or harvested wild, each delivered at the peak of its season. Fore Street cooks are constantly inspired and excited by the variety and taste of these local ingredients. Reservations are required. 775-2717 forestreet.biz (Website includes directions).
